I know, I know. It’s going to come off pretty silly for me to say this, but I think it’s true, and this the Internet so I get to blast my opinion as if it’s fact. Okay. Ready?
Donald Trump is not dumb, and he knows what the Michael Cohen sentencing memo means. So that then begs the question, why is he pretending that Cohen’s sentencing memo clears his name? That’s the complete and total opposite of the truth. He knows that he’s “Individual-1,” and as such he knows that the Department of Justice — his own Justice Department — thinks he is a direct conspirator in a series of felonies committed on his behalf. He knows, therefore, that he is the “smocking [sic] gun” that he is claiming Mueller doesn’t and never will have.
No. Really. He typed “smocking.” More than once. In a single tweet. This tweet, actually.
“Democrats can’t find a Smocking Gun tying the Trump campaign to Russia after James Comey’s testimony. No Smocking Gun…No Collusion.” @FoxNews That’s because there was NO COLLUSION. So now the Dems go to a simple private transaction, wrongly call it a campaign contribution,…

So, since the premise I’m working from is that he’s not dumb, he’s clearly lying. But why? Why is he lying about the fact that he is, undeniably, his own smocking gun?
Anyone who has read any story on the memo that Mueller’s team filed with the court when asking for the judge to give Trump’s former personal “fixer” attorney a stiff prison sentence knows that there sure as hell is a “smocking” gun, and that his name is Donald Trump. Because Donald Trump is Individual-1, and Michael Cohen “acted in coordination with and at the direction of” Individual-1 in the commission of several serious campaign finance crimes. If this were any other case, Trump would have been named specifically, but because that carnival barker moron has the power of the executive branch of our government him — for now — Mueller’s got to be extra careful just how much he reveals to the court that he’s been able to glean, and when.
In fact, Trump is so transparently attempting to lie his out of culpability — something I am sure his lifetime of silver spoon fed excuses, equivocations, and bone spurs has gotten him bigly used to — that today The Washington Post fact checker invented a wholly new category to define his actions. The Bottomless Pinochio. Because he repeats lies so much that they never die.
Now, I am well aware of the fact the Internet already has tons of “Trump is Hitler 2.0” content out there, and I’m not saying he is literally Hitler, or his administration is the Fourth Reich. However, I will drop this super-famous quote from Joey Goebbels, Hitler’s propaganda czar, right here and let you all decide for yourself whether or not, in this case anyway, the comparison is at the bare minimum a relevant one.
“If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.” – Joseph “Huckabee Sanders” Goebbels
When Goebbels said “the truth is the greatest enemy of the State,” he was unwittingly hitting on exactly why Trump might be willing to be so craven and unrepentant about his lying. It explains, precisely, why he hasn’t even acknowledged Individual-1. As soon as he does, the truth starts to come into the conversation, and once that happens, reality has to be reckoned with. But not if he is able to make “No Collusion” the big lie that Goebbels referred to.
It just turns out the collusion that could wind-up taking Trump out was between himself and Cohen, conspiring to commit campaign finance fraud so that he wouldn’t have to explain to the evangelicals voting for him why he’s paid off women who claim he doinked them. Yes, collusion, Donny. Bigly collusion.
And something tells me Mueller’s still waiting to sew it all up and connect it all back to Russia. If not, it doesn’t really matter because a smocking gun doesn’t have to smock from a single crime being committed; it can be smocking after any crime, which were most definitely committed on Trump’s direct orders.
That’s why it’s so important to Trumpism for Fox News, Breitbart, InfoWars, CRTV, NRA-TV, Rush Limbaugh, and the rest of conservative media to play along, to help him ignore Individual-1. The smocking gun exists. The smocking gun is Individual-1, and Donald Trump is Individual-1. Ergo…
…Donald Trump is the smocking gun.
