An avowed evangelical Christian has called for people to pray that she overcome her inability to pray for members of the LGBT community affected by the recent shooting in Florida.
Lauren Showalter, of Prairieville, said she issued the prayer request Monday after discovering she was unable to earnestly supplicate for the healing of those mourning and recovering from the terrorist attack at the Orlando gay nightclub Pulse.
“I’m a huge Ted Cruz supporter and saw his Facebook post saying he was praying for victims, their families, and their loved ones,” the 39-year-old mother of three recalled. “So I figured, if a good Christian like Senator Cruz could pray for those perverts who lead an abominable lifestyle, so could I. Turns out, I was wrong.”
A devout member of Bethany Church in South Baton Rouge for 15 years, Showalter said that when she tried praying for the Orlando victims, she was invariably distracted by thoughts of same-sex couples showing affection toward one another.
“Every time I knelt down, clasped my hands, closed my eyes, and began to ask God to show His boundless mercy and grace to those deviants who make Him want to vomit, I’d see images of men kissing men, and women having relations with women, and gender-benders using whatever bathroom they want,” Showalter said. “It was the most horrific experience anyone could imagine.”
Showalter has called for all “Christian prayer warriors” to entreat the Almighty to take away her “pain and suffering” caused by trying to pray for LGBT people, and to allow her to pray for them without any more “heinous” distractions.
“If you’re a Christian, and believe in the power of prayer, please pray for me, because I can’t pray for the gays,” she declared. “Pray that God deliver me from this horrid affliction and allow me to pray for all those people who will spend eternity in damnation and hellfire.”
