Trump Campaign Manager Kellyanne Conway Believes If Women Were Stronger, Rape Would Not Exist

A 2013 video of Kellyanne Conway’s appearance on “To The Contrary” has surfaced, showing Ms. Conway saying something absolutely abhorrent about rape. During a discussion on women in combat, Ms. Conway mused:

If we were physiologically, not mentally, emotionally, professionally, equal to men, if we were physiologically as strong as men, rape would not exist. You would be able to defend yourself, to fight him off.

Women get raped because we don’t work out enough. If we were just all super strong, we’d never get raped. Except when we’re drugged, or little girls, or elderly women, or disabled women, or unconscious.
Donald Trump has bellowed he would be better for women than Hillary Clinton. Really? The guy who said women who get abortions should be punished? The guy who uses misogynistic insults to go after women he doesn’t like? The guy who cheats on his wives, and stated numerous times, he’d date his own daughter? The guy who hired Kellyanne Conway, a woman who thinks women get raped because we don’t spend enough time at the gym? And who, when she appeared on Anderson Cooper’s program in 2012, got her ass handed to her for lying about abortion? Here is a bit of that, courtesy of Pensito Review:

KELLYANNE CONWAY: The “Washington Post” reported on August 10th that there are Democrats who are going to the convention in Charlotte who want their plank expanded. They feel that it’s too draconian. It doesn’t allow for partial birth abortion bans. It doesn’t ban sex selection. You’ve got all these baby girls being killed just because they’re girls in this country-
COOPER: Wait, wait.
CONWAY: I mean, Paul, under what-
COOPER: Excuse me, where is that happening?
CONWAY: Excuse me?
COOPER: Where, as you say, we have all these baby girls being killed in this country because-on sex selections, on abortions? Where-
(CROSSTALK)
COOPER: Where is the evidence on that?
CONWAY: The Guttmacher Institute which is the research on Planned Parenthood has data on sex selective abortions. And actually Congress-the House just passed a bill to ban that. I’m not sure it ever went to the Senate. And I’m sure President Obama would veto it if it was put on his desk-
COOPER: But statistically, there’s not really much evidence that that is actually occurring in the United States. Amongst some immigrant groups in small numbers it may be occurring but in no statistical measure is it significant.
CONWAY: Well, we should look at Guttmacher Institute’s statistics to really illuminate us on that. But it does-it does occur because there’s no much science now people can-they can know the gender of their baby and they make their choices accordingly.
COOPER: It occurs overseas a lot but again I don’t think the evidence is here in the United States. I’ll double check. But I just read earlier.
CONWAY: Thank you.

Ms. Conway is trying to push the usual conservative agenda of no abortion ever, for any reason. Anderson Cooper comes back after the commercial break with some hard truth for Kellyanne Conway:

COOPER: Before the break, Kellyanne, you mentioned the Guttmacher Institute information on sex selective abortion in the United States. Here’s what they actually say in a May 30th press release titled “Sex Selective Abortion Bans: A Disingenuous New Strategy to Limit Women’s Access to Abortion.” The study acknowledges the practice does go on overseas as we mentioned and perhaps in certain Asian-American communities in the United States in small numbers. But, quote, “In the United States, meanwhile, there is limited data indicating that sex-selective abortion may be occurring in some Asian communities. Although the U.S. sex ratio at 1.05 males for every female is squarely within biologically normal parameters.” So I just wanted to put that out there.

It is important to note that, in 2012, the GOP included language in its platform calling for a constitutional ban on abortion, with no exceptions. Not for rape, not for incest, not even for the life of the mother.

Remember Jodie Laubenberg? The Republican state representative from Texas who compared a rape kit to an abortion? How about Todd Akin, and his belief that some rapes just aren’t “legitimate”? Or Clayton Williams, who compared rape to the weather? Or Lawrence Lockman, who said:

If a woman [has the right to an abortion], why shouldn’t a man be free to use his superior strength to force himself on a woman? At least the rapist’s pursuit of sexual freedom doesn’t [in most cases] result in anyone’s death. (source)

Which brings us back to Kellyanne Conway’s comments in 2013 about rape. She believes that men are raping women because we’re weaker than they are. What about men who are raped? How does Ms. Conway explain that away? Are male victims and survivors of rape weak, as well? According to Ms. Conway, the only reason women are raped is because men are so much stronger, so if a much stronger man is raped…?
Rape is not about physical strength, or “sexual freedom,” or anything other than power. The problem with conservatives is they do not understand anything other than violent, stranger rape, is actually rape. I have said for years that conservatives only think rape is rape if a woman crawls into an emergency room, covered in blood, her uterus hanging down around her knees, hands tied behind her back, and says she was walking home from church when a strange man wearing a ski mask grabbed her, dragged her into an alley, and raped her.
Marital rape doesn’t exist. Female college students need to stay away from liquor, so said John Kasich. Women are physically weaker than men and therefore, it’s our own fault. Abortion should be banned, even in (or possibly especially in) cases of rape.
What this all boils down to is rape culture. Kellyanne Conway, victim blamer, works for Donald Trump, misogynist. Donald Trump used to be pro-choice, really pro-choice. Now he’s kissing the lily white asses of evangelicals, so he has to be staunchly pro-life. His running mate has said one of the first things they will do is relegate Roe v Wade to the “ash heap of history.”
Some women are planning to vote for Donald Trump. Hearing Kellyanne Conway blame female rape victims won’tĀ faze those women one bit.
