McCain: President Obama ‘Directly Responsible’ For Orlando Shooting

I’m going to give you the benefit of the doubt and just skip over the part where I think this is some 2008 vintage sour grape wine you’re chugging here. I’d like to think a man of your, um, lifetime year acquirement status would be mature enough to get over that. I think this is really just a case of you really not being able to meet a war you don’t want to get your dick into.
It’s pretty neat-o that Republicans get to pretend that George W. Bush’s disastrous Iraq War didn’t in any way lead to the rise of ISIS. It’s truly cute how they get to imply that because that total pussy/wedding party drone-striking death from above Commander in Chief isn’t hardcore enough with his military boner that somehow us creating a power vacuum in the area that we destabilized and incubated ISIS is, like, totally irrelevant to the discussion. But it’s also just as neat-o bandito that Republicans like John McCain get to pretend that them taking campaign contributions from the NRA and other outside interest groups to keep even the discussion of gun regulation off the table doesn’t have anything to do with terrorists being able to attack us here, on our own soil, with much more frequency and with any gun that’s legal to buy within our borders, isn’t it?
If you want to talk about who’s “directly responsible” for Orlando, you can point the finger squarely at the bastard who pulled the trigger enough times to kill 50 Americans. Thanks to the NRA, and people like Senator McChickenHawk, the Orlando shooter was able to use a gun that was specifically designed to make the task of killing 50 people all the easier. It’s pretty much unmitigated bullshit that Obama’s actions created ISIS, though you could say that him arming people in Syria — where it’s a clusterfuck of epic proportions — certainly exacerbated the issue.
But, truthfully the Orlando shooting isn’t a one-size-fits-all tragedy. It’s not just a terrorist attack. The man was an American citizen, so it’s a domestic terror attack. It’s also a garden variety American Mass Shooting. Which, by the way, you war monger, it is truly fucking pathetic how hard you’ve worked to make American Mass Shootings a thing. Because God forbid we make someone who the government thinks might be a terrorist wait a few more days to get their hands on a gun right?
This tragedy should make us once again confront the issue of guns in this country. More specifically, gun access. That’s really, ultimately, what we’re talking about isn’t it? We all can admit that a gun doesn’t kill someone on its own — it needs anyone from a terrorist to a toddler to use it to that end. But to deny that this shooting wasn’t at least in some way related to our outright obsession with guns in this country is like pretending that peanut butter and jelly aren’t a harmonious pairing.

It is fact that the government cocks-up their lists like the terror watch list on the regular. But that’s not an excuse to throw the whole notion of the watch list out. What it means is we have to have clear guidelines for who gets on the list, and we have to allow everyone, yes even actual terrorists, access to the list so they can petition to have themselves removed if they’ve been flagged in error. That is totally fair, and part of due process.
In exchange for that transparency, it’s not at all beyond the pale to then say we get to hold anyone on that list away from a semi-automatic rifle for the next week or ten days. Because can we get really really rilly rill for a second? If someone is on the terror watch list and they’re also buying a semi-automatic weapon, what exactly should the average, thinking person do? At what point does even a smidge of caution become appropriate when talking about restricting a constitutional right?
In the end, that’s the a discussion that this country may not ever be ready to have with itself. But that’s sort of beside the point, really. What makes people angry is that elected officials like Senator McCarpetBomb are more than willing to treat the deaths of dozens of members of the LGBT community, 20 first graders, and the thousands of others of Americans who die every single year from gun violence as some acceptable price to pay for freedom, while the rest of us know that’s just complete and utter gun nut propaganda, and if 20 or even 50 dead innocent people doesn’t change their tune, probably nothing ever will.
And all of this doesn’t even broach the fact that the guy who thought Sarah Palin should be one of his skipped heartbeats away from the nuclear launch codes, and he therefore shouldn’t be trusted to give advice on how to run a lemonade stand. So…
Yay America?
