So You Really Think Liberalism Is A Mental Disorder?

I am amazed at the number of people who will toss around this statement: Liberalism is a Mental Disorder. It originated as the title of the 1995 best seller written by Michael Savage, a hard-right nationalist. At one time, he had the third most popular radio show in the nation. Everything he discussed would lead back to one central point, that lefties are trying to ruin the world.

His background and education are science and alternative medicine, anthropology and ethnobotany, which obviously makes him an expert in the intersection of politics and psychiatry. In the beginning, when he first went on the air, he referred to his political stance as “to the right of Rush and to the left of God.” While he was not always so conservative, his views changed dramatically with the AIDS epidemic and the beginning of the gay rights movement.

Savage is currently attached to World Net Daily, which is listed as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center.

WorldNetDaily is an online publication founded and run by Joseph Farah that claims to pursue truth, justice and liberty. But in fact, its pages are devoted to manipulative fear-mongering and outright fabrications designed to further the paranoid, gay-hating, conspiratorial and apocalyptic visions of Farah and his hand-picked contributors from the fringes of the far-right and fundamentalist worlds.

WND is known for stirring up the Obama “birther” controversy, architecting the swiftboating of John Kerry, and being behind Proposition 8 in California. Famous names attached to the organization include Rick Santorum, Ron Paul, Ted Nugent, Chuck Norris, Pat Buchanan, and Rush Limbaugh.

In 2009, Savage was banned from the U.K.

Then-British Home Secretary Jacqui Smith was quoted as saying it was “important that people understand the sorts of values and sorts of standards that we have here, the fact that it’s a privilege to come and the sort of things that mean you won’t be welcome in this country.” The ban was reaffirmed in 2011 despite lawyers’ attempt to have it lifted. While he calls himself a conservative nationalist, his critics say he fosters extremism. The BBC identified his views on immigration, Islam, rape and autism as causing serious offense. (CBS)

Some of Savage’s most well-known quotes also include:

  • The white Christian heterosexual married male is the epitome of everything right with America! (DB)
  • I’m beginning to think that women should be denied the vote. Their hormones rage; they are too emotional. (MM)
  • I’ll tell you what autism is. In 99 percent of the cases, it’s a brat who hasn’t been told to cut the act out. That’s what autism is. What do you mean they scream and they’re silent? They don’t have a father around to tell them, ‘Don’t act like a moron. You’ll get nowhere in life. Stop acting like a putz. Straighten up. Act like a man. Don’t sit there crying and screaming, idiot.’ (Today)
  • In fact, Christianity has been one of the great salvations on planet Earth. It’s what’s necessary in the Middle East. Others have written about it, I think these people need to be forcibly converted to Christianity but I’ll get here a little later, I’ll move up to that. It’s the only thing that can probably turn them into human beings. (MM)

This was originally intended to be a rant about liberalism and respect. However, once I learned the origin of this quote, I honestly could not even get worked up any more. Frankly, this guy makes Trump seem almost liberal by comparison, although he is a huge Trump supporter. Just remember any time someone throws out this ridiculous quote…this is where it came from, and they probably have no idea. Bless their hearts.

  • The reason Liberalism is considered a mental disorder by Conservatives is several-fold: One, it is a philosophy which likes to punish success and celebrate failure. Two, It is a philosophy which cannot grasp two stage thinking, Three, it is a philosophy that is in constant contradiction with its own “values” and will petition against the self interest of its adherents. Four, it makes decisions in vacuum, ignoring precedent. Five it is a philosophy that cannot accept that they are not representative of the majority of the world. Six it is virulently intolerant philosophy, violently opposed to anything or anyone it perceives as not inline with it’s belief system, while paradoxically viewing itself to be a paragon of inclusiveness. There is more, but this is a start and I will be very happy to provide examples, however introspection is not a Liberal trait either.
