So Much Win: XHamster punished bigoted North Carolinians by not piping porn to them

A porn company named XHamster has joined the fight against North Carolin's HB2.

As disgusting and deplorable as North Carolins’s HB2 is, and I’ve taken to calling it the “Show my your junk” law, it’s been really cool seeing big business smack Governor Pat McCrory and the state’s Republican lawmakers down.

He’s not a corporation, but he is an institution so when Bruce Springsteen canceled an upcoming concert in the Tarheel State last week it was just one of many economic salvos launched at the tacit and explicit discrimination that is now perfectly legal in North Carolina. Then came word that 100 international companies had sent a letter to the governor’s  office warning of a boycott of his state should he sign HB2 into law. PayPal took it one step further by canceling a planned expansion within the state. But perhaps my favorite rebuke of North Carolina’s bigots came from pornography provider Xhamster last week.

It’s pretty well-documented that red states really do love them some porn. So something tells me that even though massive corporations like Wells Fargo and Apple might not have made a dent in the thick-headed hatred being put on display in North Carolina, that losing access to sweet, sweet porn might do the trick. Granted, there are roughly 3.2 billion sources of porn on the Internet, so more companies would have to follow suit to create a total fuck flick embargo in North Carolina, but I really am tickled that at least one company had the, ahem, balls to stick it to the most bigoted of McCrory’s citizens like this.

According to The Huffington Post’s account, the statement from Xhamster was pretty much gold too:

“We have spent the last 50 years fighting for equality for everyone and these laws are discriminatory which XHamster.com does not tolerate,” he said in an official statement sent to The Huffington Post. “Judging by the stats of what you North Carolinians watch, we feel this punishment is a severe one. We will not standby and pump revenue into a system that promotes this type of garbage. We respect all sexualities and embrace them.” (source)

But that wasn’t the only haymaker Xhamster dropped on North Carolina. Using hard data, they revealed that either the emperor has no clothes, or the ones he has would also look quite good on a lady as well.

“Back in March, we had 400,000 hits for the term ‘Transsexual’ from North Carolina alone,” he said. “People from that state searched ‘Gay’ 319,907 times,” he added. (source)

Damn! That’s got to hurt bigots in North Carolina who have some naive view of the so-called purity of their state. Then again for those of us living in 2016, we know that what someone looks at to get off doesn’t say anything about them unless it’s predicated on victimizing someone like child pornography or revenge porn. But I am positive that finding out over 400,000 people searched for transexual porn and nearly that many went looking for gay porn will come as an utter shock to those who pushed HB2 into existence.

There’s something really satisfying about that stat, isn’t there? It’s like the one floating around right now about more Republican politicians being caught in sexually compromised situations in public bathrooms than transgender people. Hypocrisy, as ugly as it is in practice, can be quite beautiful from afar when it’s recognized, called-out, and bashed to a pulp.

But the mic drop moment came a little later. Again, per HuffPo:

Kulich said the website plans to replace the black screen currently seen by North Carolina porn buffs with a petition demanding the repeal of the law.

“Hopefully, it will get as many signatures as the ‘transsexual’ searches,” he said. (source)

What a killer last line. Well done, Xhamster. Thank you for restoring a just a tiny bit of my faith in humanity. It just goes to show you that no matter what social conservatives might say about someone — like, you know, pornographers  and LGBT+ people — they’re most usually completely and utterly full of shit. Let’s hope a few more porn sites take their cues from Xhamster and put up similar porn firewalls between North Carolina and their content.
