Donald Trump won Nevada last night, and his victory speech was breathtaking. Flanked by his sons Eric and Donald Jr., Trump began by talking about winning, and how the U.S. will soon be winning, and more winning. Remember his first winning speech? How we’re going to have so much winning, we’ll get bored of winning? Yeah, it was a little like that. Trump segued into thanking the owners of the hotel where he held his victory rally, Steve Wynn, and Pastor Robert Jeffress. Jeffress, by the way, believes Satan is behind Roman Catholicism, and that LGBT rights will pave the way for the Antichrist. But about halfway through the victory speech, Trump said this:
We won with young. We won with old. We won with highly educated. We won with poorly educated. I love the poorly educated. We’re the smartest people. We’re the most loyal people.
The crowd loved it. Even though, when Trump said he loves the poorly educated, he shrugged his shoulders and smirked, the crowd loved it. Given this is the same guy who said he could shoot someone, and his supporters wouldn’t care, we probably should not be surprised. This is not loyalty. This is ignorance. This is fear of the other. This is scary as hell.
And still, we have people on the left who keep whining about how, if their pet candidate isn’t the final nominee, they won’t vote. They’ll sit home, and hand the White House, and the Supreme Court, to Trump. Because it’s looking more and more like Trump will be the Republican nominee. His supporters are rabidly xenophobic, anti-LGBT, pro-fetus but anti-child, fundamentalist Christians who want a never-ending war in the Middle East. They’re poor people who are so consumed with hatred for the other, they will vote against their own best interests. His supporters dress up in Klan robes.
Watch the video below. These are actual Trump supporters in Las Vegas. A woman who wants to put ads up on the mythical Trump anti-Mexico wall. An old man who is there to fight against a woman’s right to choose. The woman who thinks Trump will bring class into the White House. Donald Trump appeals to the worst of humanity, and he has opened the floodgates. People who used to feel disenfranchised, people who only watch Fox, only listen to Mark Levin and Rush Limbaugh, people who hate Muslims and the LGBT community, who think David Barton is a great historian, and Michele Bachmann is right about the End Times, are now supporting Donald Trump.
If that doesn’t scare you…
